An exhibition in memory of artist Jim Tinley is set to take place at the Old Artist Studios in Porthleven for nine days starting tomorrow (Saturday).
It will be open daily from 10am to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm and entry is free.
Jim Tinley was an artist and art teacher who spent 30 years recording the characters in and around his home in Porthleven.
From the 1970s to the late ‘90s Jim made hundreds of paintings and drawings, in pencil and oils, of the local people he met in his beloved home village.
He taught art at Helston School and was the founder, with other artists, of a community art movement in Porthleven in The Breageside Studios.
Jim died in November 2018 but as a tribute to him Jim’s wife, Sue, his family and friends have partnered with The Porthleven Art Community Interest Company to bring together his best and most important work from across the UK.
Jim’s widow, Sue, who has been the driving force behind this important exhibition, will be there throughout to talk to visitors about Jim and his life’s work.
As the exhibition will be ephemeral, with the paintings returned to their owners when it finishes, Sue wanted to create a lasting legacy.
Again with the help of the Porthleven Arts Community, a limited edition hardback book to celebrate Jim’s life’s work and the history of the people of Porthleven from the 1970s to the end of the decade is being created.
In order to raise the funds needed to make this a reality a Crowdfunder has been created at The Jim Tinley Retrospective Book and Exhibition.
It is hoped that many people with links to Porthleven over the years will want to help and pledge their support.
A copy of the book will cost £30, and some pen and ink drawings by Jim, recently discovered at the Porthleven Harbour & Dock Company offices, can also be purchased from just £10.
