An officer with Devon and Cornwall Police has been dismissed without notice for gross misconduct.

PC Christopher Woodman faced allegations that on September 24, 2019 he breached the standards appropriate to the conduct of a police officer in respect of 'honesty and integrity', 'discreditable conduct' and 'duties and responsibilities'.

It had been alleged that the officer attended an incident where allegations of common assault were made. PC Woodman did not record that a crime had been reported, despite the information being given to him. 

Following a three-day public hearing, the police misconduct panel concluded that the allegations were proven, and that PC Woodman had breached the expected standards of professional behaviour.

The panel determined that the officer would be dismissed without notice and his details will be submitted to the College of Policing Barred List, preventing him from working within policing.

Head of Professional Standards, Detective Superintendent Paul Kessell, said: “On this occasion the behaviour of the officer fell below the standards expected within policing.

"Through his actions, the officer undermined the public’s trust and confidence in the police force and did not fulfil his duties and responsibilities.

“Such behaviour will not be tolerated within policing and the decision made by the independent chair is that the officer is dismissed without notice.”
