A memorial football game for a much-loved member of the community took place on Sunday (Aug 29).

The Jamie Gray Memorial football match took place at Wendron United FC's ground, The Underlane and was attended by friends, family and those who came to pay their respects whilst enjoying the game.

The memorial game was played between Wendron United FC and Mawnan FC and was a close encounter between the two sides, with Mawnan eventually grabbing the win.

The full time score was Wendron United 3 - 4 Mawnan FC.

Paul Webb, a friend of Jamie and one of the organisers of the event said: "He was the most infectious person you’d ever meet, so full of life.

"Everyone who knew him knew he was the one making everyone laugh.

"But other than being the joker he was the most caring man, husband, father and friend in the world which is why so many loved him.

"The day was incredible with loads turning up either from a football background from playing with him or working with him and of course his family.

"The game was incredibly fun with so many players able to turn up and join in.

"It was competitive as a local derby and played at a good standard.

"The game ended up being very close with the win going to Mawnan winning 4-3."

After the game a raffle was held in order to raise money for men's mental health charity, Man Down.

Over £1,050 was raised at the event and several businesses from the local area donated prizes for the raffle.
