LINDEN Homes has said it is very well aware of its obligations to build a footpath down to Swanpool after concerns were raised that the work was not going to be completed.

At a meeting of Falmouth Town Council on Monday, Cllr Alan Jewell raised concern that the developer would not be fulfilling its obligation to build the path to avoid residents and the public having to walk down the busy road to the beach..

"Linden Homes, same old story," he said "They've built the houses but they haven't built the footpath down to the toilets and the top end of this site. There are always the loose ends on these housing developments that they seem to be very reluctant to do because that's the piece that the people will benefit from but they don't benefit from. So they benefit from selling houses but they don't benefit from building paths, so getting them to do it is a nightmare."

But in a statement issued to the Packet, Linden Homes said it hadn't finished on the site yet but it would be building the path, although it didn't give a timeline.

“We are still in the process of completing The View @ Swanpool," it said. "We are aware of our planning obligations and will continue to work with the local authorities as we finish the development.”

Concerns had also been raised by local residents about the completion of the pathway.

Deborah Barker told the Packet: "This was the only element of this development that local people approved of. It was particularly important as the extra traffic on Swanpool Road has made walking extremely hazardous."

The development on a greenfield site on the banks of Swanpool known as Horse Fields was originally recommended for refusal by Falmouth Town Council and was strongly opposed by local people. It was eventually rejected by Cornwall Council.

But a planning inspector based in Bristol allowed an appeal by Linden Homes and so a housing estate was built on the site with the path being built down to Swanpool being a condition of the approval.
