A total of 48 patients with coronavirus were being cared for in Cornwall's hospitals as of Tuesday this week, figures show.

Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust had 45 coronavirus patients admitted, while the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust had a further three patients needing hospital treatment for the virus.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated at Royal Cornwall Hospitals for Covid-19 by 8am on October 26 was up from 36 on the same day the previous week.

However, the number in Cornwall Partnership hospitals was two fewer, down from five on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at Royal Cornwall Hospitals occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 increased by 29% in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 35.

There were no beds occupied by Covid-19 patients four weeks ago in Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Across England there were 6,883 people in hospital with Covid as of October 26, with 803 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has increased by 34% in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has increased by 18%.

The figures also show that 49 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in the week to October 24. This was up from 35 in the previous seven days.

Four new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in the same week, up from three in the preceding week.
