A JUDGE has paid tribute to the 'quiet dignity' of the mother of murdered man Aaron Pill after sentencing one of the women who gave his killers a false alibi.
Brea Coggin, aged 23 of Avalon Close, Mylor Bridge, appeared at Truro Crown Court today for sentencing after pleading guilty to assisting an offender on the first day of her trial back in August.
Sentencing her to 15 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, Judge Robert Linford said it was only the fact that custody would cause significant harm to her two-year-old daughter that had stopped her going to prison.
Following the sentencing Judge Linford paid tribute to Caroline Johnson who was in court to hear the sentence.
"I pay tribute to Aaron's mother who's had to sit through this all again in quiet dignity," he said.
In a victim impact statement read out in court Mrs Johnson said that there wasn't a day that went by that she didn't cry for her dead son or hear him cry out that he'd been stabbed.
"It's been a living nightmare," she said. "I am unable to move forward. I still struggle with the fact I wasn't given the opportunity to say goodbye to my son and he died alone. I still think of him daily and cry."
Coggin was also ordered to complete 240 hours of community service and placed under a two-year supervision order.
Last year Kane Coggin, of Meadowbank, Mylor Bridge and Liam Bastow, of Avalon Close, Mylor Bridge were convicted of murder in relation to the death of Aaron Pill at his home in Tresawle Road, Falmouth on May 4. They were both sentenced to life in prison.
Georgia Potter, aged 51 of Meadowbank, Mylor Bridge, who pleaded not guilty to assisting an offender at trial but was convicted will be sentenced at a later date.
