One of the most common drugs found on UK streets is cannabis, with 29.6% of 16 to 59 year olds in England and Wales having tried the drug at least once in their life according to consumer data company Statista.
However, possession of cannabis is illegal in the UK and those caught with the substance can face criminal action.
Here are five people who were brought before Cornish courts recently after they were caught with cannabis.
- William Horgan:
William Horgan, 34, of no fixed address was found to have nearly three grams of cannabis in his possession.
The offence took place in Falmouth on September 2 2021 and Horgan plead guilty at the first opportunity.
He appeared at Bodmin Magistrates' Court in September and was fined £80, ordered to pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service, as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £34.
The cannabis was forfeited to the police and destroyed.
- Edward Neilly:
Edward Neilly, 51, of Trevenson Road, Pool, Redruth in Cornwall was found to have over eleven grams of cannabis in his possession.
The offence took place in Truro on January 6 2021 and Neilly plead guilty at the first opportunity.
He appeared at Bodmin Magistrates' Court in September and was fined £80, ordered to pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service, as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £34.
The cannabis was forfeited to the police and destroyed.

Robin Davies, 29, of Grenfell Avenue in Saltash, Cornwall was found with 0.2 grams of cannabis in his possession.
The offence took place in February in Bodmin and Davies plead guilty at the first opportunity.
He appeared at Bodmin Magistrates' Court in September and was fined £120, ordered to pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service, as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £34.

- Ryan Andrew:
Ryan Andrew, 32, of no fixed address was found with 0.9 grams of cannabis in his possession.
The offence took place in July 2021 in Bude.
Andrew appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court and was fined £80, ordered to pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service, as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £95.
The cannabis was forfeited to the police and destroyed.
- Martin Dickson:
Martin Dickson, 49, of Cardrew Close in Redruth, Cornwall was found with 13.5 grams of cannabis in his possession.
The offence took place in Penzance on May 15 and Dickson plead guilty at the first opportunity.
Martin appeared at Truro Magistrates' Court and was made to serve a community order that put him under curfew from 7pm to 7am for 20 days and was monitored via electronic tagging.
He was also made to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £95.
The cannabis was forfeited to the police and destroyed.
