A SOCIAL media craze which encourages people to smash up toilets and film it for likes is being blamed for a spate of vandalism at a town's public conveniences.
Recently opened toilets at Camborne Recreation Ground have been wrecked for two weekends running with the latest damage being caused yesterday.
Camborne Town Council is blaming the damage on a 'TikTok' trend that "encourages people to damage toilets, film it and publish to the social media world for 'likes'."
Posting a picture of the damage on its Facebook page Camborne Town Council said: "When we opened the new toilets at Camborne Recreation Ground we knew they'd incur damage, wear, tear and the occasional vandalism.
"However, the picture shows the recent spate of damage we have encountered on Sunday (added to a spate we encountered the weekend before). These toilets are open in the morning and shut at around 6pm. This is believed to have happened during daylight hours yesterday.
"This level of vandalism is a problem driven by a current Tik Tok trend that encourages people to damage toilets, film it and publish to the social media world for 'likes'."

The council says police, staff and community partners are making regular patrols of the site and have been since the opening of the new facilities in an attempt to address issues before they arise
"However, we cannot always be there," said the council. "In this case the vandals have taken it upon themselves to cause this damage on a Sunday afternoon when the area was likely attended by other members of the public."
People are being urged to report it to www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/.../101-non-emergency/ if they see people misbehaving in public places.
"Your immediate report to the police and first person account of what you see is the most valuable action you can take to help us."
The council says it will have to close the new toilets in the meantime until repairs are made and it has had opportunity to explore and instigate additional preventative measures. The accessible toilet in the park will remain open in the meantime.
It says it will continue to work with the police and community partners to address the issue.
