A Cornwall Councillor is calling for more pop-up vaccination clinics in Falmouth.
Jayne Kirkham, Cornwall Councillor for Falmouth Penwerris, has called upon NHS organisers to set up more pop-up vaccination clinics in Falmouth, claiming long waits and queues at a pop-up clinic held at The Moor demonstrated the area's need.
Cllr Kirkham thanked the NHS staff who had put on the clinic, describing it as hugely popular and evidencing the huge need locally.
However, it was also suggested that the town's needs would not have been met completely by the clinic held today and requested more be arranged.
In her request, Cllr Kirkham said: "Our last walk-in in Falmouth was 17 September and the closest place when you try to book a booster/jab from Falmouth online is Treliske, so there’s a backlog here as Treliske is not easy to get to without a car.

"Also neither secondary school in Penryn or Falmouth has been vaccinated so our 12-15 year olds are backlogged too.
"I know they’re meant to be doing Falmouth School soon but so many of the students have Covid now that there will be dozens who aren’t able to take up the jab at school and will need it locally."
As fate would have it, this very reporter was in one of the aforementioned queues in order to get his second jab, and Cllr Kirkham is not entirely inaccurate regarding the waiting times.
I'd arrived at the clinic at around 1:50pm and wasn't seen until around 2:40pm, despite organisers at the site bringing people in ten at a time.
Once I'd reached the front of the queue, however, the process was efficient and painless and the staff giving vaccines were friendly and informative.
Given the sheer number of people who turned up at the clinic purely during the time I was there, I would be very much inclined to agree with Cllr Kirkham's assessment that these clinics are still very much needed in Falmouth.
Another pop-up vaccine clinic will be held at at Falmouth University's Woodlane Campus tomorrow and will run from 10am until 3pm.
