The daily Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly showed that 452 new people tested positive for the virus in the previous 24 hours, up from yesterday's figure of 296.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay.

The latest data shows a combined 3,209 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Monday, December 6, significantly down on yesterday's 3,306 weekly total.

The weekly case rate average has dropped to 557.6 cases per 100,000, down from the 574.4 average yesterday. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic is now 72,540.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 54,073 new cases, down from 58,194 cases yesterday. This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 10,771,444.

When it comes to recent hospital admissions in Cornwall, there were 43 patients with the virus in Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust hospitals and two patients in Cornwall Partnership Trust hospitals up to Tuesday, December 7 - the most recent data given by the government, updated weekly. Two were in ventilation beds.

The national figures are more up to date, and show a total of 7,413 patients with the virus in UK hospitals as of Thursday, December 9, with 900 in ventilation beds.

NHS England no longer updates figures at the weekend. In the most recent update on Friday, the combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic stayed at 347 after the most recent death on Sunday, December 5.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic has remained at 282. At the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust the figure remains at 65.

The government’s update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – has risen to 613 deaths in the 28 days since a positive Covid case, including three in the most recent update.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate remains at 703 from data available this week. It shows that five new deaths occurred in the week ending Friday, November 23.

The overall UK figures show 132 more people having died within 28 days of their first positive test result, up from 120 yesterday.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stand at 146,387. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Friday, December 10, a total of 51,229,132 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 46,705,196 have had their second dose. A total of 22,594,743 have had their booster jab or third dose.

In Cornwall 455,126 have had their first jab while 423,679 have had their second and 231,311 are reported to have had their third dose or booster.
