The daily Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly showed that 306 new people tested positive for the virus in the previous 24 hours, down on yesterday's figure of 384.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay.

The latest data shows a combined 2,712 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Tuesday, December 14, up on yesterday's 2,640 weekly total.

The weekly case rate average has risen to 471.2 cases per 100,000, up from the 458.7 average yesterday. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic is now 75,562.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 82,886 new cases, down from 90,418 cases yesterday, despite the Omicron variant. This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 11,361,387.

When it comes to recent hospital admissions in Cornwall up to Tuesday, December 14 - the most recent data given by the government updated weekly, there were 45 patients with the virus in Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust hospitals, two were in ventilation beds, and one patient in Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust hospitals.

The national figures show a total of 7,611 patients with the virus in UK hospitals as of Thursday, December 16, the most recent data, with 875 in ventilation beds.

NHS England does not update hospital death figures on the weekend. In the most recent update, on Friday, the combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic stayed at 349 after the most recent death on Saturday, December 11.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic is at 284. At the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust the figure remains at 65.

The government’s update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – stands at 623 deaths in the 28 days since a positive Covid case, with zero new deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is updated weekly and remains at 712 from data available this week. It shows that nine new deaths occurred in the week ending Friday, December 3.

The overall UK figures show 45 more people having died within 28 days of their first positive test result, down from 125 yesterday.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stand at 147,218. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Saturday, December 18, a total of 51,463,255 people in the UK had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 47,009,608 had their second dose. A total of 28,060,874 have had their booster jab or third dose.

In Cornwall 456,686 had their first jab while 426,227 had their second and 284,466 are reported to have had their third dose or booster.
