There are a limited number of firework events to celebrate 2022 in Cornwall as a number of pre planned displays have been postponed.

Truro Bid cancelled their New Years firework celebrations amid covid concerns earlier in December. A statement from the city council said: "It is with regret that Truro City Council has decided to postpone this years New Year's Eve Fireworks display to a future date due to the current and predicted position of the pandemic.

"At this time, we want to ensure that we do not in anyway assist the virus to spread or to put any additional strain on our NHS and essential services.

"We would like to thank our sponsors, and everyone involved in planning the event for their support and generosity.

"We obviously wish all Truro residents a safe and Merry Christmas and a healthy and Happy New Year."

The statement followed St Ives BID's decision to postpone their New Years celebrations a week previously, with hopes to able to run the event in 2022, potentially to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee.

St Ives BID Manager Sarah Stevens said: “Whilst we are disappointed not to go ahead with fireworks this New Year’s Eve, our priority remains the safety and wellbeing of our community, and the people who visit St Ives.

“We look forward to working with our stakeholders and partners to ensure 2022 showcases St Ives as brightly as ever, and wish everyone a safe and restful Christmas and New Year.”

There are no official events scheduled for both Falmouth or Helston.

A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police is reminding people of the legalities of buying, carrying and possessing fireworks:

  • It is against the law for someone under the age of 18 to buy or possess fireworks.
  • You must not set off or throw fireworks, including sparklers, in the street or other public places unless it is part of an organised and approved public display.
  • If you are suspected to be in possession of fireworks illegally you may be stopped, searched and have them confiscated.
  • Residents are also urged to be considerate of those who can find the noise from fireworks distressing for animals and some vulnerable people
