New cases of Covid have started to fall in Cornwall in the most recent weekly update.

There were 14 areas recording fewer than 50 cases during the seven days leading up to last Monday, January 10.

Tywardreath & Fowey recorded the lowest number, at just 21 cases, making it the only place on the map of Cornwall to be coloured blue, for having a case rate of only 100 to 199 cases per 100,000 people, compared to everywhere else having having an average rate of 400 to 799, or 800 to 1,599 cases per 100,000.

The other areas showing the lowest number of cases on the government's cluster map were: Crowan, Wendron & Stithians 34 cases, Mylor Bridge & Frogpool 36, St Day & Lanner 36, Looe & Polperro 36, St Germans & St Mellion 40, St Neot & St Cleer 42 , Camborne South 48, Liskeard 43, Trebetherick &, Whitecross 43, Crackington & Tintagel 47, Saltash Latchbrook & St Stephens 48, Camelford & Tresmeer 48, Falmouth East 49.

At the other end of the spectrum, areas still recording more than 100 cases in a week were: Camborne East 105, Helston 126, Bude & Stratton 100, Launceston 107, St Ives & Halsetown 103, St Austell East & Carlyon Bay 108.

It was as Cornwall and Isles of Scilly saw figures weekly cases by more than fifth overall, during the same time period.

It recorded a total of 5,007 cases in the seven days up to January 10, which was 1,442 fewer than over the previous week - a fall of 22.4%.

The case rate has dropped to below 1,000 cases per 100,000, having started the week at 1,149.9. The latest figures show an average rate of 870.0 cases per 100,000 people.
