Wendron United managed to fight back and earn a draw against Camelford in a low-key affair which saw no goals until the 78th minute.
Ryan Downing was the player to finally break the deadlock for the away side late on before Cam Patterson doubled their lead just minutes after.
However, the Dron never gave up and a finish from top goal scorer Cam Wheat sparked the comeback that led to Jack Noy levelling the scores with less than five minutes left of the match.
The result saw Wendron rise one place into fourth and ensured the Camels don’t leapfrog them in the league standings.
The first half saw few chances for the two sides, although Downing was proving to be a difficult opponent for the Wendron defence.
The tricky winger was constantly a threat, and at the half-hour mark managed to get past his opposite number and put a tempting cross into the box, but no one was there to meet it.
The first half ended was a long-range effort from the Camelford left-back, who cut inside onto his right foot and fired it towards goal but was comfortably held by ‘keeper Ethan Fearn.
The best chance of the match came shortly into the second half after Jack Stocker bullied his way through a tight midfield before sending Wheat down the left-hand side who squared the ball into the path of Charlie Young in the six-yard box, but he failed to finish the chance.
Downing again was causing problems and had a powerful shot parried by Fearn to safety.
Nevertheless, he couldn’t stop his brilliant finish in the 78th minute to make it 0-1. The ball wasn’t cleared well by the Wendron defence and fell straight into the path of a Camelford player, who then laid the ball to Downing and curled a shot into the far corner from just outside the box.
The away side quickly doubled their lead in the 80th minute, taking advantage of the sudden opening of chances in a tight game. An excellent piece of midfield creativity led to Patterson being sent through one on one and effortlessly chipped the ball over the goalie.
Refusing to be beaten, the home side hit back just four minutes later. Defender Max Roberts received the ball from a throw-in and delivered a brilliant pass from deep into the box which was met by Wheat at the far post to head home.
Wendron levelled the scores in the 87th minute, despite the referee having to consult the linesman before confirming the goal.
Wheat was involved yet again as he drove onwards to the penalty box and sent the ball across into the path of Noy who, with the help of a mix up between the keeper and his defender, bundled the ball just over the line.
Despite looking like a late defeat for the home side, Wendron fought back and earned a creditable draw. They face Wadebridge Town away next weekend as they look to build on this result.
