A Cornish holiday resort is expanding with a £41 million investment that it says will create up to 300 local jobs.
St Ives-based Una is now kick-starting its significant development plans after being on hold for nearly two years, bringing local contractor Brady Construction Services onboard as its lead contractor.
The resort has already invested more than £8m in its development works over the past nine years, including introducing 29 new lodges and an Atrium housing its award-winning Una Kitchen.
Now Una is progressing its biggest expansion phase to date in a further £41m investment. Works include the creation of a Lido complete with a barbecue ‘street-style’ dining area, 93 self-catering villas and a central Piazza, with 55 one-bedroom luxury apartments.
James Hemming, resort director at Una, said: “The pandemic previously held us back from progressing our highly anticipated pipeline of construction, but with a new year upon us and a sense of normality re-instilled, we’re delighted to bring the plans back to life.
"We focus on providing a high-quality, luxury experience for our guests, so our development plans are fundamental in helping us continue to deliver this offering.
“Another core focus for us is being inclusive within our community and embracing our Cornish roots in everything we do. That is why we chose a contractor which has a proven track record in delivering exceptional work within the county, and prides itself on hiring locally sourced talent.
"Brady Construction Services is the perfect partner to help us enhance Una as a well-established Cornish business which plays a substantial role in helping the county thrive.”
Family-owned business Brady Construction Services operates across Cornwall and Devon, with its head office in Bodmin.
James Brady, director at Brady Construction Services, said: “We are very focused on our roots in Cornwall. Our delivery team for Project Una are all Cornish with many years of experience in delivering projects across the county and there will be further opportunities to recruit locally for positions such as an administrator and a construction labourer to supplement the project team.
"Where possible, we will source materials in Cornwall and utilise materials manufactured in Cornwall.
“We were delighted to be awarded the contract for the next phases at Una St Ives to get the project back on track. Over the last couple of years, there has been a lot of uncertainty, but this project has secured two years of work which is a benefit not only to our business, but for everyone involved in the local economy.”
Currently employing 56 people, Una sees more than 32,000 visitors every year and has more than 500 members signed up to its Leisure Club. Its current facilities include 29 lodges, a luxury spa and gym, indoor pool, and an outdoor Tranquillity Garden, as well as Una Kitchen.
