A family run petrol station in Falmouth has promised to keep its petrol prices as low as it can despite the current rise in costs caused by the war in Ukraine.

Posting on Facebook the owner of Boslowick Garages Jackie Chaney-Spiers, said they wanted to explain that they do the best to keep prices low, despite the turmoil in the world markets.

"We know that these are trying times for everyone given the current situation regarding energy prices and in particular, Ukraine," she said. "As a family and as a business, we are shocked and saddened by recent and ongoing events and are doing whatever we can to support those in need and stand in solidarity with Ukraine.

"With that being said, we want to explain that we do our best to keep fuel prices as low as possible; however, prices fluctuate weekly based on supply and demand, and particularly right now, the geopolitical situation.

"As an independent garage, we set our own prices; however, they are directly influenced by wholesale prices, which have risen this week. As we have received a diesel only delivery this week, our diesel price has risen but our unleaded prices have not. This is because we are selling new stock of diesel at this week’s prices, whereas we are selling last week’s delivery of unleaded at last week’s prices."

She says, whilst in theory they could have increased the unleaded prices in line with this week’s market prices, they did not feel this was an honest way to conduct its business, and so they had not done so and will not do so in the future.

"Our prices will always honestly reflect market prices," she said. "We felt we needed to explain the situation honestly and simply because we are a family-owned business of 42 years standing that values our customers greatly; without you, we wouldn’t be here."
