Porthleven Food Festival has announced a stellar line up of bands headlining the three nights of the 2022 event.
On Friday Guilty Pleasures will open up proceedings with a bang, bringing cheesy pop classics, then Company B will headline the evening with the sounds of the 1940s brought up to date by the energetic seven-piece “jump jive” band.
Saturday will see Smokey’s King Shufflers, a Chicago blues band, and Sandy Acre 7, a six-piece band that cater for all ages and tastes; from soul, blues and swing to ska, reggae and dance, and from 1950s R&B to modern anthems and contemporary classics.
On Sunday the festival will welcome The Disappointments to the stage, featuring long-term Porthleven Food Festival Kids’ Field production manager Vicki Cox on double bass and vocals, alongside Thor House (guitar and vocals), Antony Ashton (drums) and Sascha House (melodica and vocals) for a country and rock and roll fusion the band call folkabillyboogie that’s far from disappointing.
Local favourites Go Go Skank will close the festival, playing well-loved 80s tunes in a Rockabilly Ska style.
This year’s evening music will take place in the main tent on the Harbour Head, which will be transformed from the Chef’s Theatre by day into an evening pub-style venue.
Food festival chairman Alec Short said: “This is one of the ways we’re making moves back to the original days of the festival, bringing the main content back to the heart of the harbourside.
"We know locals loved it when the music was local bands in this tent and so that’s one of the bits of feedback we’ve listed to and made changes on. We’re supporting our local bands with a line-up that’s really going to bring the party – and it’s about time we had a party."
This community run festival is free to attend this year, with the committee saying they want to keep it accessible to those who can’t afford it. They’re asking people who feel able to make a donation to give at the event, or on their Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/porthlevenfoodfestival
There will be a £5 suggested donation on the door of the evening music events. The festival is a not-for-profit event and any profits over and above what we need to run the Festival will be donated back to local causes.
