Members of the Falmouth and Penryn Amateur Boxing Club held an evening of sparring and technical training raising £500 for refugees of the ongoing Ukrainian crisis.
On Thursday, March 27 coaches and club members of the Falmouth and Penryn ABC were inspired to do their part to help those affected by the conflict by donating all the proceeds of the evening’s training sessions to the British Red Cross charity.
The donations from the boxers were matched by the club’s committee taking the amount being donated to £500.
Long-time chairman of the club Gerald Pitts commented: “It’s good for the lad’s fitness and reactions and it gives them the experience of what it’s like to be in the boxing ring and it’s a great opportunity to raise some money for the Ukraine appeal.”
Both junior and senior club members had the opportunity to spar in the ring with an official referee supervising, giving boxers of all abilities and ages the experience of what it feels like to box.
For anyone interested in boxing the club is welcoming new members aged 11 and above and can be found behind Booths printing on the Praze, Penryn.
