A hotel on the Lizard Peninsula could be given a £5 million upgrade if plans to extend go ahead.
Owners of the Hotel Polurrian at Mullion have submitted early drawings for their vision to increase the number of rooms, build new spa facilities and add a function room to cater for up to 150 guests.
The hotel has asked for pre-application advice from Cornwall Council about the proposals, before putting in a formal planning application.
A spokesperson for Polurrian said that £5 million of capital investment was being committed to improve the existing facilities and extend the number of bedrooms from 41 to 65.
It is proposed to include these in a new northern wing on the main building, built in the same traditional architectural style as the original hotel.
A new function room for up to 150 guests, and new spa facilities including an upgraded heated swimming pool with retractable glass roof, are also part of the scheme.
The existing leisure centre buildings would then be converted into three or four self-catering holiday lettings, if the project gets the go-ahead.
Andrew Long, principle director of Travel Sector Property Limited (TSPL), said: “In addition to securing the long term commercial viability of the hotel on a sustainable basis, it is anticipated that an additional ten new full-time permanent jobs will be created.
"Hotel Polurrian is a special place for myself and my family where we are pleased to invest substantial personal funds in a comprehensive phased package of well designed refurbishment and improvement works.”
It was announced in February that Mr Long, a Lincolnshire businessman who has holidayed with his family in Cornwall for over three decades, had taken over the hotel they return to year-in-year-out.
His company, Travel Sector Property Limited (TSPL), carried out an off-market acquisition of Hotel Polurrian Limited, owner of the freehold interest in the Polurrian on the Lizard hotel near Mullion, along with its surrounding 12 acres of grounds – including part of the Polurrian Cove beach.
