A pub in Helston is preparing to reopen having been closed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Angel Hotel in Helston is now looking for staff, with the aim of reopening in the next few weeks.

Marilyn Bows, who has owned the pub with husband Mike for the last 11 years, said they hoped to open the doors of the historic pub and hotel in time for Flora Day.

She told the Packet: "It's only closed because of Covid. We want to open for Flora Day – hopefully the week before Flora Day.

"We're interviewing people next week. We're delighted to be reopening the Angel Hotel."

She added that while they had a breakfast chef in place, to cook for guests in the 18 letting rooms upstairs, they still needed a chef to cover lunches and dinners.

Once reopened, they plan to serve traditional British classics, such as homemade lasagne, chilli and steaks.

Marilyn and Mike also have the White Hart at Hayle and The Union in Penzance.

They bought the Angel Hotel 11 years ago, the same year that they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. It has special meaning to the couple, as they also held their wedding reception there, and they had hoped to also mark their 60th anniversary there last year, but due to the closure it was not possible.
