Wendron United Ladies are hosting a charity match in memory of Chloe Williams of Charlestown United Ladies, who tragically passed away aged 17 in October 2021.
Chloe had played for Charlestown Ladies alongside her mum who also featured as a goalkeeper and coach of the side.
Football was one of Chloe's biggest passions, therefore the two sides felt that this was the perfect way to remember her.
As well as a football match there will also be a raffle after the game with all of the proceeds going to the Invictus Trust which was a Cornish Charity that Chloe supported.
Amongst the items up for auction are a signed Plymouth Argyle home shirt, a signed away shirt from Argyle striker Luke Jephcott, a voucher for two adults and children at the Seal Sanctuary, a two-night stay at Stay Wild Cornwall and two children's vouchers at Newquay Zoo to name a few. Items from at least ten more companies are set to be announced for the raffle in the coming days.
Speaking to the Packet Wendron United Ladies Manager Lee Smith explained how the match came about, he said: "When we last played them in the league it was something we already knew about. They started playing their league fixtures again and it was just a conversation after the game saying 'if they were putting anything on in her memory we would be happy to be involved.'
"Then a couple of months later they asked if we could host because we have the floodlights, we thought to do it in an evening so we could get a big crowd. With the ladies playing in the Sunday League they don't really get a chance to play under the lights so it will also be a nice opportunity to go out and play on the main pitch under the lights."
For those who are unable to attend on the night, a gofundme page is available online for those who are wishing to donate. You can access that here.
Other Charlestown players are raising money for MIND in Chloe's memory by taking on a charity skydive as well as a head shave. The head shave will take place at the ground before kick-off.
The match takes place this Friday, April 29 at Wendron Football Club, the gates open at 6:30 with kick-off at 7:30 pm. Entry is £2 for adults and £1 for children. A catering van will be on the scene to provide food meanwhile the bar will also be open for refreshments.
