A Royal Navy air base in Helston has held a fete day in order to thank families for supporting personnel stationed there.

The gates of Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose at Helston were opened to families on Saturday, May 21, for a day of fun and games to say thank you for the support, effort and dedication they give to the personnel who work at the air station.

The Families' Fete Day was only made possible by the financial generosity of the navy’s industry partners, Leonardo and Serco, and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

A spokesperson for RNAS Culdrose said: "With more than 1000 people in attendance on a sunny mid-May afternoon, everyone was able to enjoy the entertainment and activities provided by the departments at the air station as well as the kindness of the local business and companies across the southwest.

"This inaugural event provided opportunities for naval charities to build their relationships with the families of RNAS Culdrose to be able to provide great support in the future when personnel require it.

"A great thanks to Lieutenant Commander Keith 'Daisy' Adams and Warrant Officer Bryn Martin for organising this event.

"It had been postponed three times over the last two years.

"We hope to do this all again next year."
