As the Queen's Platinum Jubilee approaches, Helston and its surrounding areas are planning some fun and family filled events, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 70 years on the throne.
Taking place in Helston will be four days of fun at Coronation Park, starting with a Jubilee Treasure Trail, bouncy castle and Zorbs from Thursday and all bank holiday, with a Jubilee Farmers' Market combining with the tenth anniversary of the Old Cattle Market on Saturday, from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Then on Sunday a Big Lunch organised by Helston Town Council will take place from 12 noon, with Helston Town Band.
The Central Methodist Church Helston will also be hosting a Jubilee garden party on Saturday. Rev Danny Reed will be in the stocks, there will be fun, fancy dress and competitions for all ages. A royal themed fancy dress will be taking place for all ages, and there will be prizes for everyone. It will open at 2pm and finish around 5pm.
Porthleven is holding a Jubilee Big Lunch at the Moors Recreation Ground, with races, including a duck race, on Thursday between 11am and 2pm. Take a long a picnic.
In Mullion on Thursday there will be a Beacon Party held at Mullion Golf Club. Activities include mini-golf, games, music and piper and of course the beacons and fireworks. There will also be a demonstration of the NCI's work. The party will start at 7pm and finish at 10.30pm. Tickets are available by contacting don.garman@nci.org.uk or phone 01326 250604.
Also on Thursday, there will be a beacon lighting from 7pm at Roskruge Beacon at St Anthony, with a barbecue and music from The Stowes.
Manaccan, Helford and St Anthony will also be hosting a Big Tea Party on Saturday, from 2pm at Manaccan Playing Fields, everyone is invited. There will be a village show and tea party, with people asked to bring a platter of food they enjoy, along with red, white and blue flowers in a empty jam jar.

Penmarth, Carnmenellis will be celebrating from Thursday, with a small committee planning a day of events starting with a bonfire at a local farm and on Friday, there will be a bouncy castle in the field behind the chapel from 11am for everyone to enjoy. At 1.30pm The Menherion Singers will entertain in the church hall, and at 3pm there will be races for all ages plus wellie wanging and a tug of war in the games field. At 4pm there will be cream teas for all in the church hall and all events are free to attend. Local schools Halwin and Wendron have painted and drawn pictures of the Queen and her crown and these will be decoration the church hall, with the event possible thanks to Wendron Parish Council, The Community Chest and the community at Penmarth.
Over in St Martin, there will be lots of events taking place. On Friday at 7.30pm there will be a royal quiz at St Martin Parish Hall for teams of four, £1 per entry, with proceeds going to The Ukraine Fund. On Sunday there will be a Jubilee Picnic Lunch on the Recreation Field. People are being asked to bring their own food, and rugs and chairs as there is a limited number of tables available. This will start at 12.30pm. From 1.30pm there will be a fancy dress competition, with ages up to five being asked to dress up as a character from a favourite nursery rhyme, and ages five to 11 asked to dress up as 'all things British.' From 2pm there will be a dog show. Owners are being asked to keep dogs on leads at all times, and to clear up any mess. From 5pm and onwards there will be a match of comic football, and a barbecue.
And on Sunday in Mawgan, at 12.30pm, the Big Lunch takes place at the recreation hall and field, with music from The Stowes Cornish Ceilidh band.
The Top House Pub at The Lizard has announced a Jubilee event with live music from The Cadgwith Singers on Saturday from 8pm and on Sunday, June 5 there will be grand finale with a best of British barbecue and entertainment from Whippletree Ceilidh Band at 3pm, followed by Jolly Roger at the helm from 8pm. Also at The Lizard there will be a royal scarecrow competition on the week leading up to the Jubilee, ending in a fun day on Friday, June 3. There will be Queen themed children’s races and a dog show.
Cury Village Hall is holding an afternoon tea party from 4pm to 6pm on Sunday, £2 per person, bookings from Mike Aston on 01326 240045, and at Godolphin there will be a street party at the Old Chapel on Sunday - take a plate of food and drinks, but no alcohol.
