WENDRON and Porkellis will be celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this week with the launch of the first phase of a new walking trail to mark the occasion.
It will also see the opening of a small garden in the centre of Porkellis, which has been renovated for the event.
Wendron Parish Council, with the help of a Heritage Lottery grant, has purchased the small community garden in the centre of Porkellis to be the centre point of a new circular walking trail that will link together several points of heritage and environmental interest.
Residents will also have the chance to receive a free tree sapling, to help play a part in achieving the Queen's Green Canopy concept. Funding has been provided to the village hall committees to help them arrange events in concert with the formal opening of the Jubilee Garden at 2pm on Friday.
The garden will be opened by County Councillor Dr Loveday Jenkin, and it shall be part of the first phase of the Platinum Jubilee Trail. The trail itself meanders through lanes, bridle paths and quiet stretched of public highway through to the village of Penmarth and past eight sites at which information panels will eventually be placed.
Designed by the same company that provides signage across the regional National Trust estate, it will provide interpretation of the local scenery, bringing heritage sites to life and helping to keep people on the right path.
Project leader Councillor Tim Law said: “The project has been far more complex than I anticipated, but it will be worth all that work to see our wonderful countryside opened up more effectively for future generations to enjoy.”
Cllr Law is leading a guided walk of the trail, as it currently exists, from the Jubilee Garden starting just after its official opening.
Anyone is able to attend but they should bring suitable clothing and footwear.
