The organiser of a truck show at Stithians Showground over the weekend has apologised after horns were blasted in the early hours of the morning.

Mike Quartley, organiser of the The Truck Show which takes place in Devon and Cornwall, apologised after people living in Stithians complained they were being kept awake until the early hours of the morning.

Posting on the Stithians Facebook page Mr Quartley said as the organiser he thanked everyone for their patience at the weekend and said next year action will be taken to ensure it doesn't happen again.

"Secondly an apology for the horn blowing noise, this is something that will be expressed to drivers as a condition to attending next year to not do after a certain time of day

"The trucks are a godsend to every aspect of daily life for all of us and we thank every driver that attended to allow us to also raise money for local charities

"We hope that some of you who visited enjoyed the show."

The Truck Show took place at the Stithians Showground on both Saturday July 16 and Sunday, July 17, and is billed as for those who like their vehicles "big ‘n’ loud".

But many people took to Facebook on Sunday saying the blasting horns had kept them awake into the early hours when some had to go to work in the morning.

However the apology met with a positive response with people saying the curfew was a good idea and many had actually enjoyed the show.

Sophie Cotton said: "It was great to see the show well attended and with everyone enjoying themselves. We didn't mind the horns during the day but agree a curfew perhaps from midnight to 8am would be a good idea! Thank you for your post and I hope your charity fundraising was successful."

Maureen Nuciforo said: "Was nice hearing everyone having fun but would be nice if there was a curfew for the horn blowing. Felt 1am was a bit late."

While Robert Joslin said: "Thanks for bringing the show to Stithians. Great to see and hearing lots of people enjoying themselves.

"Personally I liked hearing the horns as did all my family. Having a curfew time might be good for some residents, if it was windy then most people wouldn’t have even heard them. I hope you bring the show back next year."

A non-scientific poll conducted on the Stithians Facebook noticeboard found that 49% of people who voted in the poll loved the horns while 22% hated them.
