UPDATE SUNDAY: Police have issued the following statement on Sunday: "Following a public appeal for a concern for welfare of a male in a van in Torpoint, he has been located safe and well and no further action is required. 

"Devon and Cornwall Police would like to thank the public for their assistance with this matter."

The police helicopter is out and people are being asked to call 999 "immediately" if they see a man in a specific van.

Devon and Cornwall Police are asking for the public’s help following a report of concern for the welfare of a man within a vehicle in Torpoint, south east Cornwall.

Officers were called at 12.20pm today (Saturday) after concerns were raised by members of the public about the man seen in a parked white van in the Lower Anderton area of Millbrook.

The man then left the scene and police are concerned for him.

A force spokesperson said: "Officers, with assistance from the police helicopter, are carrying out searches to locate the man and the van.

"The public are being urged to look out for the van and report any sightings immediately to police via 999."

The vehicle carries the registration number BD05 SVZ, has ladder racks on the roof, and has faded red signwriting on the side.

The man is described as being white, in his late 50s to early 60s, with short dark hair.

He was wearing a fleece lumberjack-style brown and green jacket.
