The renowned shop dogs of Falmouth have been joined by a new member who has had his place of work named after him.
Dill the family dog joins owner Karen Narramore at the newly opened Dill's Cafe and Store just off Market Street on Well Lane.
Karen says reducing food waste is important to her, so she focusses on locally sourced produce and products so the daily menu depends on what is in season.
Vegetarian and vegan lunches are available everyday, to eat in or takeaway - the price is fixed (£6.50), but the menu isn’t - it all depends what vegetables are available and in season.
"Reducing food waste is important to us, so we’re aiming to be creative with what we have, like our cheesy bread and butter pudding, made with yesterday's leftover croissants," says Karen. "Anything we can’t use is composted to grow more veggies. Discounts are given for bringing your own cup or container for takeaways.
"All the drinks have been sourced to bring our customers the best flavours, from lovely people with ethical, thoughtful businesses. Coffee comes from Hundred House, a multi award winning speciality coffee roaster based in Shropshire hills. Loose leaf tea comes from Bird and Blend - an independent tea company 'on a mission to spread happiness and reimagine tea'.”
The shop has a selection of vegetables and hand cut flowers available to buy, grown by small scale, local producers.
Karen has a selection of homemade cakes, which always include gluten-free options, pastries and soon we’ll be offering baklava from a local maker - perfect little treats.
On the cafe shelves, she is stocking an ever growing selection of products to buy, including Goulds cider vinegar - naturally fermented from apples grown in their own orchard in Grampound, Delea krauts and kimchi, Josh’s chocolate - made on the family farm at Callestick, and Great Scott hot sauces, made in Falmouth.
The cafe is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
They are always looking for new suppliers, in order to keep up a constant supply, so get in touch if you can help: dills.falmouth@gmail.com
