Firefighters from Falmouth Fire Station were called to Merthen Wood, Groyne Point, Helford River this afternoon at around 12.35pm after critical control received a call of smoke issuing from woodland.
When they arrived they found up to one acre of woodland smouldering. Due to it being in a rural location and difficult to access the fire boat from Falmouth was deployed to help crews with putting out the fire.
A spokesperson from critical control said: "At 12:35pm Critical Control received a call to smoke issuing from a wooded area. Firefighters from Falmouth Community Fire Station were mobilised to investigate.

By 6pm it was reported that firefighters were still in attendance making area safe but the fire had been contained using a main jet supplied by fire boat.
