South West Water (SWW) has confirmed that a sewage pollution alert notice at Gyllyngvase Beach has been removed following no further discharges in the area.
Surfers Against Sewage had posted a notice on their website saying that due to a sewage overflow following recent storms had resulted in a pollution warning being made on Monday morning.
There was no pollution alert for neighbouring beach Swanpool and now following a check of the area from SWW the alert has been lifted.
In a statement the service said: "In recent days we have seen heavy localised rainfall which followed the prolonged period of hot and dry weather and as a result this hasn’t been able to permeate into the ground.
"A significant volume of rain has in some cases run into our network, which can cause our storm overflows to trigger. We continue to invest in our network to reduce the use of storm overflows as part of our WaterFit plan.”
Water quality at Gyllyngvase Beach has been rated as ‘excellent’ in the last four classifications by the Environment Agency.
