Falmouth Town manager Andrew Westgarth did not mince his words following their 2-1 away defeat to Helston Town in the Western League on Tuesday evening.

It was the second time in a week Town had been defeated by their rivals by that scoreline after the Blues triumphed in the FA Cup on the weekend with Rikki Shepherd bagging two late goals.

In this coming together, following a dreary first half Helston took the lead when Rubin Wilson smashed home a rebound as Ryan Barnes spilled a Jordon Copp strike.

Falmouth levelled the game in the 82nd minute when Alex Wharton came off the bench to score from close range against his old side after a Luke Brabyn strike proved too hot to handle for Cory Harvey.

But directly from the following kick off Helston were back in front again when a loose ball in the penalty area was calmly tucked away by Wilson to seal back-to-back wins for Helston.

Town are now ninth in the Toolstation Western League table with only goal difference sperating themslvees and Helston in tenth.

Speaking to the Packet after the game Westgarth was disappointed his side let the game getting away from them so soon after levelling the fixture, he said: "It was de-ja-vu wasn't it? I thought we would have learned our lessons. We worked so hard to get back into the game. It was very much like Saturday.

"Again first half I thought we looked comfortable, I thought we looked really good. We gave away a really sloppy goal, defensively poor for the goal. 1-0 down then we worked really hard to get back into the game. Then what was it 30 seconds? It was such a poor goal to concede, so disappointing.

"Saturday I was in shock but tonight I am more mad. I am really mad with the lads tonight. You talk about leaders, characters, you talk about desire. You can't coach that it must come from within. They must have felt it, they got back into the game, we huffed and puffed but again we have fallen short in both boxes. I hate to think how many corners we had. I hate to think how many crosses into the box we had, but unless you get on the end of it you aren't going to win games of football."

"We fell short again in both boxes. It's exactly like Saturday. For all the possession it means nothing if yon can't score goals, get shots on target and make the keeper work. they are good at what they do. I thought as the game went on their big boys, Harrison (Jewell) was excellent.

"He loves winning the ball you can see he has a real appetite and hunger for winning the ball and defend and there is no shame in that whereas that is something we have got to learn. The dark arts of defending or the fundamentals of defending we learn better."

Falmouth made one change to the side that lost on Saturday with Andreas Calleja-Stayne replacing Charlie Edney.

Town were again without top scorer Jack Bray-Evans who is set for a spell on the sidelines following a hamstring injury as well as captain and aerial threat James Ward who was unavailable for both ties.

Westgarth outlined the difference between the two sides on the day and said Falmouth missing two big players is something they will have to deal with. He said: "Being clinical in both boxes, we fell short. I can't say nothing other they've scored two and we have scored one. At the end of the day you are going to read it tomorrow they have we lost 2-1 because we weren't good enough."

"Of course, when you have you captain and your top goal scorer out any team is going to struggle. It is something we have got to deal with. We huffed and puffed up there but we just fell short again.

"We have two big games now. The FA Vase at home then our first real big trip away. We will see how we cope with that one with personnel, it's a long trip, an all day-er. How we will recover and pick ourselves up after two games in three days."

Falmouth Town play twice over the bank holiday weekend firstly in the FA Vase First Qualifying Round as they take on South West Peninsula League side St Austell at Bickland Park on saturday. They then make the 334 mile round trip to Ashton and Backwell United on Bank Holiday Monday.
