A pedigree beef show in Cornwall is back with a bang.
The Cornwall Pedigree Beef Calf Show returns on Saturday, October 22, after a two year absence, to the Royal Cornwall Showground, and it's shaping up to the biggest yet.
There are nine pedigree classes in total, four native breeds and five continental, including two of any other breed - and, of course, the overall champion is selected from these.
There is also a young handler section with classes for those aged 5-9, 10-13 and 14-16 years old.
A significant change this year is that, whereas previously the show was open to calves born the previous October, this year calves are eligible if they were born this year.
The day has also changed- it will be held on a Saturday, not a Sunday as in the past.
Lionel Pascoe, a pedigree beef breeder in Hayle, is the chairman of the event. He said: "We've got a new committee and the show is back with a bang.
"It's a great social get-together and it's the perfect opportunity for breeders from all over the south west to promote their breed."
It's also, he says, a good learning stage for the livestock: "When the calves are shown at this age, by the time they get to one or two years old, they're easier to break and to show."
The first show saw 120 entries plus 100 more calves on the day so this year the show will use two halls at the Wadebridge showground.
Lionel continued: "As well as being a great event for breeders, it's a fun day out for families - and it's free. There will be 20 stands and the Royal Cornwall Show education trailer, too - we'd love to see as many people as possible."
Entries are £5 per calf and breeders can enter by emailing cornwallpbcs@gmail.com. The closing date is September 30.
The schedule can be found at Cornwall Pedigree Beef Calf Show on Facebook and Instagram.
The show is free to the public to attend.
