A waste removal firm has stepped in after a Helston woman was conned out of money meant to go towards getting rubbish collected from their front drive.
Two men were alleged to have gone to the home of a vulnerable woman in Helston claiming to be part of a waste removal company to take away the waste in the front garden.
But as the woman went to get the money it was claimed she was pushed over and the money taken from her hand, without taking the men taking rubbish.
A post about the incident on the Helston group Facebook page so incensed the owner of a local waste company Eliminating Waste that they arranged to have it collected and removed for the woman and her husband - free of charge.
Posting on Facebook Dan Mc said: "Men of their word. As some of you may know my friend's wife was mugged at her doorstep by some individuals claiming they could remove waste.
"Instead they snatched and stole her money. Eliminating Waste seen the post [sic] and offered to remove it for them and today they turned up three man crew and loaded and removed the waste."
Daniel Orban from Eliminating Waste, based in Penzance, warned people to only use licensed waste to stop incidents like this happening in the future.
"Two men had gone to the home of a vulnerable woman claiming to be part of a waste removal company to take away the waste in the front garden," he said.
"It turned out they were not sincere in there intentions, they in fact shoved the lady over onto the floor and stole the money from her hand. They then ran off leaving her afraid and alone.
"Upon seeing the post we reached out offering our services free of charge. As a licensed company we would like to raise awareness of these incidents to stop them happening again. Please ensure that you use a licensed waste removal company, they will provide proof of licence and a waste transfer slip to keep track that it’s not fly tipped.
"Please share to help raise awareness and if you are approached by these “men” (and we use that term loosely) take a photo of them and report it to the police."
Since their good deed the company has been inundated with offers of work on Facebook.
