IT is "completely dangerous" to allow vehicles to use the narrow rear entrance to a large housing development on the outskirts of Falmouth while the main entrance is closed for 26 weeks, it's been claimed.
Falmouth Town Council's planning committee is to write the the planning officer responsible for the Eve Parc development off Bickland Water Road claiming the developer Persimmon Homes is breaching its planning conditions.
Residents surrounding the site have received letters telling them that the main entrance to the site is to be closed right up until Christmas. Traffic is being diverted to the narrow rear entrance on Hillhead which was originally designated for emergency vehicle access only.
Persimmon is currently in the process of building 104 two, three and four bedroom homes on the site between Hillhead and Bickland Water Road. Work was not originally allowed to start on the site until the roundabout and entrance to the site had been completed, but this has now been closed.
Speaking at the full meeting of Falmouth Town Council which followed the planning meeting Falmouth mayor Steve Eva said allowing vehicles to use the emergency entrance is "completely dangerous".
"We don't believe they have got permission to close the road," he said. "The other route is dangerous, it is completely dangerous. They are closing it for their own use we don't think that's right."
Persimmon Homes is currently carrying out major drainage works from the new development of houses on the right hand side by the main entrance to Eve Parc, which could take up until Christmas to complete.
Cllr David Saunby said he would like to see the rear entrance returned to emergency access only once drainage works have been completed, as laid out in the conditions when permission was first granted for Eve Parc.
"Planning conditions clearly state they can't use it, it's not a safe entrance for cars," he said. "They couldn't build that estate until the roundabout by the football club was put in. It's a joke.
He said he had spoken to the site manager who had told him they'd been given permission to close it.

"I asked him why are you letting them in the rear entrance which I believe is for emergency use only that's up on Hillhead Road round the back. He said they'd got permission to do so. So I'm looking into that now. I can understand them closing the road. If you can't close the road, can't get the works done."
Persimmon Homes have been asked for a response.
