A National Moment of Reflection will take place this Sunday as the nation prepares to mark the funeral of the Queen – and some towns are holding special ceremonies for it.
On Monday Liz Truss announced that there would be a one-minute silence to remember the Queen on the eve of her funeral, with the Prime Minister encouraging everyone in the UK to observe it either in their homes, outside or with their communities.
The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “At 8pm on Sunday, September 18, the night before the state funeral, there will be a one-minute silence where the public are invited to come together and observe a national moment of reflection to mourn and reflect on the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II.
“The shared National Moment of Reflection is an opportunity for everyone across the UK to mark the death of Her Majesty and we will set out details of where the Prime Minister will mark it closer to that time.”
In Truro officials will come together at High Cross and everyone is invited.
Truro City Council said: "Following the announcement by Prime Minister Liz Truss, there will be a National Moment of Reflection at 20.00 on Sunday 18th September, the evening before the state funeral for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
"Truro Cathedral will observe Truro’s one-minute silence on High Cross. Dean Roger Bush will lead the silence and offer a prayer at the end. Following this, the cathedral’s tenor bell will toll for five minutes."
Helston Town Council said it would be holding a Ceremony to Mark the Vigil, which will be part of the National Moment of Reflection minute's silence.
The ceremony is being held at the Grylls Monument, at the bottom of Coinagehall Street, beginning at 7.55pm, and should last around ten minutes. The event is open to everyone.
