The Fire Brigades Union have 'flamed' Cornwall Council's suggestion that they could be shutting down Cornwall's 999 fire and rescue control centre, and rightly so!

The idea that the search for cost savings should include potentially shutting down this essential service, as well as making some of those that work their redundant, is absolutely ridiculous.

We're in the midst of a climate emergency, having just experienced a summer where this very service worked around the clock to deal with a number of serious incidents, and THIS is how they want to cut costs?

Do me a favour...

We've got a new Prime Minister who says she's 'ready to be unpopular' in her endless quest for 'economic growth' whilst also planning to scrap banker bonuses, and yet, fire and rescue control rooms aren't safe? What kind of weird neo-liberal fever dream is this!?

Here's a radical thought: why don't we start taxing the absolutely eye-watering profits of the companies who are directly contributing to the changes in climate that the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service are having to deal with the fallout of?

Wouldn't that make more sense?

Closing fire control centres in the midst of a climate crisis would be the equivalent of choosing a crisp packet over a condom and if this absurd plan goes ahead I have a sneaking suspicion that we'll all soon be covered in crumbs.
