A CORNWALL MP has been promoted to a position within the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Scott Mann, MP for North Cornwall, has been appointed as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at DEFRA.

The MP announced the news on his social media page this week and joins the government's department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs just weeks after fellow Cornwall-based MP, George Eustice, was sacked as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

In the announcement on his social media page, Scott Mann MP said: "I'm very pleased to have been appointed to a role within DEFRA and look forward to working with colleagues to ensure the best for British agriculture and farming.

"I will offer more details about the role in my next weekly update."

The Packet has contacted Scott Mann MP for a comment on his latest appointment.

Eustice, the MP for Camborne and Redruth, had been in his role as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs since February 13, 2020 but was given his marching orders on Tuesday, September 6 by the latest Conservative PM.

In a statement on his departure from the Cabinet, Eustice said: "It has been a privilege to have been a Defra minister for the past nine years, under three different prime ministers, including almost three years in Cabinet during the most challenging of times.

"I will now offer scrutiny and advice from the backbenches."
