Wendron United spurned their chance to break into the top two of the South West Peninsula League West table after they were held at home in a 1-1 draw against Bodmin Town.
A first half header from TJ Walter was cancelled out with just over 20 minutes remaining of the match after Bodmin’s Captain Ruben Kane leaped the highest to head home an equaliser.
The Dron had scored 18 goals in their last four league matches but struggled to take their chances in a game they dominated which ultimately cost them in the league table, dropping down one place to fifth.
The first quarter of an hour of the match involved the two teams testing each other out in a slow start that would foreshadow the sluggish affair.
However, the opener would come in the 20th minute in the first real chance of the match, following a good passage of Wendron play.
A crossfield pass from Lucas Potts was expertly left by Ryan Reeve, fooling the defender and allowing right back Joe Souch to surge forward and send a first time cross into the box for Walter to head in.
Sam Hepworth had a chance to pull one back for the visitors ten minutes later after his powerful header from a corner went just over.
Midfielder Lucas Potts almost produced came up with a bit of quality as he Cruyff turned past two players and shot from around 30 yards but the ‘keeper managed to prevent it from going in.
Wendron thought they had doubled their lead just three minutes into the second half when Captain Scott Palmer headed into the net from a corner, but the referee accused him of pushing into the back of his opposite number.
Defender Palmer would be involved in a great chance again for the home side after he played Souch in behind the defensive line, although his ball across the six-yard box didn’t manage to find anyone.
The travelling side would make Wendron pay for the missed chances in the 69th minute as they took their chance to equalise.
Some skilful play from Owusu Fidelis allowed him to beat the opposition defender and float a ball in for Ruben Kane who leaped like a salmon and headed into the top corner, leaving Ethan Fearn between the sticks no chance.
The remainder of the match saw unrelenting pressure from Wendron but no breakthrough, resulting in a share of the points between the two sides.
Despite not taking the chance to rise the table, Wendron can take some consolation in the fact that Wadebridge also failed to win.
They travel to newly promoted and league leaders Bude Town next weekend in the South West Peninsula League.
