A drug user who pleaded guilty to possession of heroin, cannabis and 112 tablets of Diazepam gave a home address as a 'Bunkabin' pod at Cornwall Council's headquarters in Truro.

Kyle David Thomas Stewart Watson, aged 23, gave his address as The Pods (Bunkabins), New County Hall, Treyew Road, Trehaverne Central, Truro when he appeared at Truro Magistrates Court last week.

Watson pleaded guilty to possession of heroin in Truro on September 13. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of 1.55 grams of Cannabis in Truro on the same day and possession of the Diazepam tablets, a class C drug, on the same day.

The court was told that Watson was last before the magistrates' court back in July for drug offences and he was in breach of two suspended sentences one from the magistrates' court and one from the crown court.

Magistrates felt they were unable to deal with the sentencing at their court and sent him to be sentenced at Truro Crown Court for the breaches of the suspended sentences. He was released on bail with the only condition being that he turns up at Truro Crown Court on October 27.

In June last year, Cornwall Council announced plans to end the use of hotels and other short-term accommodation to house those in urgent need of somewhere to stay by installing around 18 so called ‘Bunkabin’ units in a car park at the Council’s Truro headquarters.
