New plans for a controversial development by Tim Smit, the redevelopment of a holiday park and a micro brewery in Par are among the latest planning applications which have been submitted to Cornwall Council this week. There is also a retrospective application for a log cabin built without planning permission

Every week more than 100 applications are validated by Cornwall Council and we have selected some of the more interesting proposals.

All planning applications submitted to the council have to be validated and are available for inspection by the public. Anyone is also allowed to submit comments about the applications – whether in support or objection.

The majority of planning applications are decided by planning officers at Cornwall Council under delegated powers. However some applications will go before elected councillors who sit on planning committees.

No dates have been set for when the planning applications below will be determined. They can be viewed by going to the planning portal on Cornwall Council’s website at www.cornwall.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/

Retrospective application for log cabin

A planning application has been submitted for a log cabin which has already been built for use as an annexe and holiday accommodation. Mr M Faulkner has applied for retrospective planning permission for the development in Poundstock, near Bude.

A design and access statement submitted with the plans explains that the log cabin was built without planning permission, having been completed in Easter 2022. It explains that it has since been used as an annexe by family members and as holiday accommodation.

The cabin is in the back garden of Mr Faulkner’s property at Swelle Cottages and the statement says that it complies with planning policy.

Revised plans for Gillyflower Farm

A new proposal for Sir Tim Smit’s plans to create a centre for horticulture, agronomy and cookery in Lostwithiel has been submitted to Cornwall Council for pre-application advice.

Planning permission for the proposed new centre, which also included accommodation and new facilities for the golf club on the site, was refused in April 2022. Now new amended proposals have been drawn up.

These remove the educational side of the development for horticulture and agronomy which are now planned to be based at the Lost Gardens of Heligan instead. The new proposals include a new clubhouse for the golf club and 19 holiday lodges.

Demolition of holiday chalets to be replaced caravans and lodges

Plans have been submitted for a holiday park to have a major redevelopment with the demolition of 70 holiday chalets and for them to be replaced with 31 static caravans and 16 lodges.

The planning application has been submitted by Park Holidays for Seaview Holiday Village in Polperro Road, West Looe. The plans also include the realignment of the internal access road  and the removal of vegetation to make space for new facilities.

Micro brewery at Par

A part-retrospective application has been submitted for the change of use of a building to be used as a micro-brewery and for the sale of food and drink. Howl Brewery has submitted the plans for its site on Polmear Hill in Par.

The premises was formerly a cafe which has planning permission for use as a restaurant/cafe. Howl Brewery wants to use the site for its micro brewery, to sell food and drink and also provide changing facilities and the opportunity for people to hire watersports equipment to use on the nearby beach.

A design and access statement explains that the applicants did not realise they required planning permission as they were using the site for purposes very similar to those which already have permission. Refurbishment works have already been undertaken on the site.
