TWO in-person consultations are still to take place over the future of Church Street car park in Falmouth.
Falmouth Town Council have already held one public consultation regarding what is to be done with the car park, with The Packet also polling its readers as to how they would like to see the four-acre site developed.
The car park, which is owned by Cornwall Council, has been identified within Falmouth’s Neighbourhood Development Plan as being key to reimagining the town centre.
If it is devolved it cannot remain a car park but would be used as a community space.
If it is not devolved it would remain with Cornwall Council and remain a car park unless the council changes its use or decides it is surplus to requirements and sells it for development.
In an update on its social media page, a spoksperson for Falmouth Town Council said: "This is where you will find the team this week: 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟔 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫: 𝟏𝟎𝐚𝐦-𝟒𝐩𝐦 𝐚𝐭 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐲/𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐛𝐲
"𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟕 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫: 𝟏𝟎𝐚𝐦-𝟒𝐩𝐦 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧: Please note the venue change. This event was previously scheduled to take place at The Dracena Centre but has had to be moved for logistical reasons.
"Not able to attend these events in person? Please visit the consultation website below and fill out the online survey to make sure your views are heard."
The results of the Packet's poll saw readers overwhelmingly vote for no devolution, and for the car park to stay under Cornwall Council control, with 73 per cent of voters choosing this as their prefered scheme.
The second most popular option, with 19 per cent of the vote, was for the building of temporary or portable structures that could include the use of light weight structures such as shipping containers.
This option would also introduce a flexible layout of the scheme to allow for event spaces on the upper deck car park.
Restrict all buildings to two storey development only with ground floor uses being a mixture of retail/leisure and the first floor commercial.
This would include space for secure cycle storage and storage for event management and temporary street furniture.
The plan would also allow for disabled parking in the winter months only.
