The family of a man who passed away four years ago has raised money for the hospital that cared for him in his final days.

David Tremayne was admitted to Helston Community Hospital in September 2018 after being transferred from Royal Cornwall Hospital for care after being diagnosed with lung cancer six to eight weeks prior.

Although originally David wanted to spend his last days at home in Mullion, David and his family were “pleased” to come to Cottage Hospital as he could see the main road outside which leads to Mullion.

David’s family stayed in the hospital’s relative suite, which was near his room, so they could sit with him whenever they wanted.

Sadly, three days after being admitted, David passed away.

David’s family has now decided to fundraise for the hospital as a thank you to all the nurses and staff who looked after him.

The family has organised ‘David’s Day' which they plan on hosting every year on the Sunday of the August bank holiday. This year's event raised funds with a raffle; a cricket match with prizes that were donated by local people and businesses, which included a spa day and a cream tea at Mullion Cove Hotel.

This year the event raised an incredible £1660.80. An ongoing raffle divided between the League of Friends and Mullion Cricket Club throughout the season has raised £535.69 with an additional donation of £20.

David’s brother Garry, Daren Turner, and other members are planning to make David’s day an annual event to be held each year on August Bank Holiday Sunday.
