Helston Railway will be marking the anniversaries of two special occasions this week with event.
Sixty years ago, on November 3, 1962, the last passenger train left Helston station on a cold evening bound for Gwinear Road. This was the last journey for passengers out of Helston after the decision to discontinue the service.
To mark this anniversary the railway at Trevarno Farm, Prospidnick, Helston will be running steam-hauled services on Thursday, November 3 for passengers along with a demonstration goods train for photographers at a selected time.
In the evening a commemorative train will leave Prospidnick for Truthall Halt where a band will play 1960s music and refreshments will be available.
At around 9pm the train will be waved off from Truthall exactly 60 years to the day since class 22 diesel No. D6312 pulled away.
There will be a special souvenir ticket reproduced from the original issues in 1962 and people are urged to dress in period fashion to mark this very special occasion.
It will also celebrate the revival group which formed in 2002 and has celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.
The original Helston Railway Preservation Society was formed at a meeting in St Ives on May 18, 2022, where the plan was to restore the track and station and to run the trains once again for passengers to enjoy.
