A consultation on overnight parking along Falmouth's seafront has gone live on Cornwall Council's website today with residents invited to submit their views.
The consultation is being launched to try and tackle the problem of overnight parking along Cliff Road, Boscawen Road and Swanpool Road.
Over the last 12 months, The Falmouth Van Working Group has been exploring the reasons and impact of overnight parking in and around Falmouth’s sea front area.
The group is made up of residents, business representatives, van dwellers and council officers and has been working with The University Exeter to better understand the reasons why people stay in vans and choose Falmouth as a place to visit or stay for longer.
The proposals have been nominated by Falmouth & Penryn Community Network (CNP) in relation to requests from local councillors Laurie Magowan and Zoe Young.
It is proposed to introduce restrictions on waiting at various locations in Falmouth including Cliff Road, Boscawen Road and Swanpool Road.
The aim of the restrictions is to prevent inappropriate parking and "the foreseen displacement to other unsuitable locations".
They also aim to preserve or improve the amenities of the area through which the roads run and to allow traffic to move safely.
Cormac, on behalf of Cornwall Council, is asking for comments on the proposals to introduce restrictions on waiting.
The proposed restrictions are to prevent inappropriate parking and the vehicles moving to other unsuitable locations.
They also aim to preserve or improve the amenities of the area through which the roads run and create safe passage for traffic.
