Struggling families and individuals will be able to get a weekly warm lunch for free thanks to a new project starting up in Mullion.
The village will be holding ‘Weekend Winter Warmers’ each Saturday between 12 noon and 1.30pm, starting this weekend and continuing until December 17.
The project will then be reviewed and if it has proved successful the plan is to start up again in the New Year.
Between those times each Saturday people can visit St Mellanus Church for a bowl of hot soup with a roll and a warm pudding.
Although donations will be welcomed from those who can afford it, there is no obligation to give any money, with no questions asked.
The lunches are being led by church warden Mary Cooper-Brown with the help of 36 volunteers on a rota.
There should be a choice from three different soups and three puddings.
Sarah Taylor, one of the volunteers, said: “It’s mainly geared at families and those who are maybe feeling a bit lonely or need a bit of company; those who are struggling and could do with a warm lunch.”
