Excitement is growing as community groups all over Falmouth are busy creating their handmade decorations for this year’s Christmas Tree Festival at Princess Pavilion and Gyllyngdune Gardens.
A&P Falmouth Ltd, A&P Cluster Support and A&P Port Operations have again generously agreed to sponsor this much-loved local event, covering the cost of the trees and lights.
The festival starts on Sunday, November 27, at 5.30pm with a performance on the bandstand from Marlborough School’s wonderful choir before A&P’s apprentices perform the grand light switch on at 6pm in the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress of Falmouth.
St Stythians Brass Band will play Christmas carols in The Garden Room until 7.30 pm, and the bar will be open, selling drinks and light refreshments, including mince pies, hot chocolate and mulled wine.
Twenty-seven community groups from in and around Falmouth are each decorating a tree with the theme of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ to celebrate the return of Miracle Theatre to Princess Pavilion, with their pantomime of the same name.
The ‘Tree of Wishes’ will be making a welcome return in the foyer area to allow people to leave messages for loved ones who have passed on or to make a wish for the future.
For those who would like to, voluntary donations can also be made to support this year’s nominated charity, Sea Sanctuary, which uses blue spaces, such as the sea, to help to deliver a range of therapeutic activities to help people improve and maintain their mental health.
Steve Jones, operations and Falmouth site managing director at A&P, said, “A&P is delighted to sponsor the much-loved Christmas Tree Festival 2022.
“We are very proud that our apprentices will again be helping to put the trees up, and we look forward to the switching-on ceremony, which will see A&P apprentices pushing the button again this year.
“We hope as many people as possible will visit the Princess Pavilion to see the handy work of the many local charities and community groups who will be decorating the trees.”
Jacqui Owen, community engagement officer for Falmouth Town Council said, “We are so grateful to A&P for supporting this event. It has become a firm favourite in the town’s Christmas calendar over the years, with such great support from the community.
“Many people tell me that they feel that Christmas has really begun when they see the trees lit up. A&P’s sponsorship means that the event is completely free for all the community groups to take part in, as well as being free for anyone to visit.”
The trees will be displayed in the foyer, on the bandstand and under the veranda in the Gardens from Sunday, November 27, until Tuesday, January 3.
