A FARMER caught speeding five times by the same camera in just eight days in a 30mph zone while he already had 39 points on licence has finally been sentenced.

Colin Martin Fowler, aged 58, Trenoweth Farm, Gweek was due to appear for sentencing at Truro Magistrates' Court in October after a trial in his absence found the charges proved on September 28.

When he failed to appear again on that occasion, the chair of magistrates accused Fowler of making a "mockery" of justice by continually failing to appear for court hearings and issued a warrant backed with bail for him to appear on November 17.

The chair of magistrates said at the time: "So he's basically putting two fingers up to the court."

She added: "He's got 39 points on his licence, he should not be on the road."

He did not appear in court for sentencing on Thursday and was sentenced in his absence.

Fowler was convicted of speeding in a Land Rover Discovery after being caught by the same speed camera exceeding 30mph on the A394 at Longdowns near Penryn on five separate occasions in February. The camera recorded him speeding on February 11, twice on February 15, February 16 and February 18 this year.

For speeding on February 15 twice he was given three penalty points each. For speeding on February 16, he was also given three penalty points.

For the speeding offence on February 18 he was fined £293, ordered to pay a surcharge of £44 and costs of £85. He was also disqualified from driving for six months.

For speeding on February 11 he was fined £146 and his licence endorsed with three points.

Fowler was caught by the newly installed multi-directional speed camera which was put up at Longdowns in February and caught out over 700 drivers in its first week.
