For a generation of TV viewers a ‘Supermarket Sweep’ trolley dash was the ultimate fun prize that few got to experience.
Now, however, one lucky shopper is going to win just that at a Cornish supermarket – all in aid of charity.
Helston Rotary Club is working in partnership with Sainsbury’s in Helston to offer a trolley dash to one winner exactly a week before Christmas.
In echoes of the much-loved TV gameshow - originally presented in the UK by Dale Winton through the 1990s, before it was revived briefly in 2019 by former X-Factor contestant turned TV presenter Rylan Clark-Neal – the winner will be allowed to race around the store in a ‘Big Sweep’ style prize.
They will be given three minutes to race around the store and collect as much as they can in their trolley, to a maximum prize value of £300.
To win this prize people can buy tickets for £1 from Helston Sainsbury’s, with money raised from the sale of tickets going to Helston Mustard Seed Foodbank.
For those not lucky enough to win the trolley dash, there will be further prizes of Sainsbury’s vouchers worth £50 and £25.
Tickets go on sale from next Saturday, December 3 and can be bought up until Saturday, December 10 when the draw will take place at 4pm and the winners announced.
The trolley dash will then take place on Sunday, December 18 – exactly one week before Christmas Day – giving people the chance to scoop everything they might need for a very merry Christmas.
