Thousands of people gathered in Camborne on Friday to welcome the festive season – and one lucky eight-year-old had a vital job during the evening.
Camborne’s festivities began at 3pm with stage entertainment in Commercial Square, street performances around the town, and an 'impressive' children’s lantern parade.
And the evening was a memorable moment for eight-year-old Cicely who was given the honour of switching on the lights.
Nominated by her mum Samantha, Cicely was chosen to push the button to light up the town as her classmates watched on.
Cicely said she was “excited” to switch the lights on. She also took part in the lantern parade with the rest of her class.
BID Camborne had organised the event, with the theme for the event being the 12 Days of Christmas.
“We’re hugely grateful for the support we’ve had from local businesses,” said manager Anna Pascoe.
“Particular thanks must go to Apollo Bingo, Speedy Hire, R G Kellow Ltd, Macsalvors, Firecrest, A R Newport, Millstone Sound, and, of course, Camborne Town Council who organised the lantern parade.
“The switch-on wouldn’t have been the success it was without them.”
