Porthleven welcomed a special visitor last night to help the port kickstart its Christmas festivities.
It was a cold but clear night, encouraging plenty of people to wrap up warm in hats, scarves and gloves so they could head down to the Harbour Head for the big switch-on event.
The traditional fairy lights that shine across the harbour all year are added to during December, with a number of set displays - including an affectionate nod to arguably Porthleven's most famous resident, Reggie the cat, who is immortalised in lights sitting in front of the clock tower and institute.
A Christmas tree on the green area was also lit up following the countdown.
Mayor Mike Toy was there to welcome the crowds, as Porthleven Town Band entertained with a full array of carols and festive tunes.
The switching on of the lights at 7pm was followed by a special visit from Father Christmas and his elves, who arrived dancing on the back of a pick-up truck before pausing outside the harbour office to throw sweets to the excited children who had gathered.
Porthleven Lights is a public funded organisation that relies on fundraising and donations to keep the port lit up for Christmas and through the year.
In addition to its fundraising events through the year, there is now a QR code that makes it easier to leave donations by taking people straight through to the fundraising details via their mobile phone. This can be found and scanned on the Porthleven Lights Facebook page.
