Different plans have been submitted to build two, four to five bedroom homes on land behind a community hall.

An outline planning application to build two new homes on land to the rear of Laburnum Hall, home of the Holy Spirit Church, on Laburnum Drive was granted in March 2021.

Concerns were raised at the time by neighbours that the proposed two to three bedroom homes with a driveway and gardens to the rear of the hall would intrude on their privacy and block off light to their homes.

But now the owners of the land the Parochial Church Council (PCC) of the Holy Spirit Church have come back with plans for homes with more bedrooms but with alternative access.

They say the new plans will address the overlooking factors that had been the concern of one neighbour.

The land is currently unused scrub land and is being sold by the church to enable repairs to the church hall.

It’s proposed that the new homes will be a four to five bed dwellings, similar in size to the adjacent properties They are proposed to be over two storeys cut into the hillside, with slate roof and cladding, and rendered finishes.

“[They are] slightly different to the original proposal, this application proposes access to the east of the hall, allowing a dedicated access to the church hall” they said in a planning statement.

“It was felt that due to the users of the hall, this would be more suitable to ensure safety.”

“The newly proposed route also means that the access to the new plots is flatter, enables better drainage of the site and enables the properties to be set back into the hillside to reduce overlooking factors, something that was a concern from the residents of 99 Dracaena on the previous application.”
